Well to my surprise, Ashlyn was the first one up. No pillow fighting with her this time. Everyone got up and got ready and it was great. Everyone was happy and excited. The weather was supposed to be good and not really too hot. We all got ready and then we were off.
We did a little more research about parking this year. It turns out they have a LDS church where the 5kk runners can park at that isn't far from the start point. We drove by yesterday on the way to the hotel so we would know where it was at. We parked their and got to the race start just a couple of blocks away at about 705 and the race started at 7:00. That was the fastest we have gotten there in any of the of 4-5 years we have participated. Right after we got started, there was a photographer taking pictures. I couldn't get the kids to go individually so this is what we ended up with.
One of the things I love about this race is that by the time you get going, you are already at mile one. Such was the case with us.
Onward we went, we ran a few sets of 100 steps and we had fun with the crowds. There were people lined up squirting us with the squirt bottles, giving high fives and slhouting out good job and we all had a fun time. Before you know it one hour and 6 minutes had passed by and we were at the finish line. We always line up at the finish line and run across together. Except Ambur and Gimlet they don't run so she is right behind us when we got to the finish line. I just love this race and that my sweeties will do it with me.
There is no stopping or changing the fact that when Ambur and Gimme get close to the finish line, there are always a lot of eyes watching and the news people hover around to get 'their story'. Something we all have gotten used to after we run across the finish line. We just know it will be a minute.
As we grabbed hands and headed across we hear overhead on the loud speaker, "Look at this sweet family running together. We have Ashlyn Davis, Tessa Davis, Jaxon Davis and Kinsley Davis all from Parowan Utah holding hands with Matiane Thayne from Las Vegas, NV and they are finishing nicely".
Then we hear and look at this k-9 companion with Ambur Davis from Las Vegas, Nevada. Ambur is doing a great job and I hear people going to talk to her so I know it will be a minute.
We got our medals and sadly, I wasn't quick enough thinking to get them to take a picture of us at the finish line. I am a little bummed about that. Ambur came through and this is the first year they didn't offer Gimlet a medal. But we made it in the shortest amount of time yet. Next year it will be less than one hour for sure. We headed to the food stands, Creamies, Chic Fil A sandwiches, cookies, bananas, water, gator aid and sadly no chocolate milk. It was great to sit down which we all did and then who came walking up but the chic fil a cow.
We all really had a great time. As we were relaxing on the grass, it donned on me that we had to walk back to the startline to get the van. Yikes! It would be just short of a second 5k. These kiddos were troopers and we were so happy to see the van and we got in and turned the cooler on and then headed to Clark Planetarium. It was now about 10:00 am.
We stopped for some good food at McDonald's which was Jaxon's pick and then we headed to the Planetarium. We have been to the planetarium before but not for some time and it has really changed a lot. There is so much more to do.
The kids all loved the tornado machine. You stand outside let the tornado build and then step on and see what it feels like. They all loved it. There is a Imax movie about fowl and there was a set pose for pictures so everyone did that as well.
This is where you jump on the floor to see if you can shake the floor the way an earthquake would. They hit a little one but couldn't get it to go very high.
There are so many interactive things to do, you could put your hand on a sphere at one point and the static electricity comes to your hand on the outside to demonstrate how lighting travels.
On another level there was a whole section about the moon. There were moon rocks, full astronaut uniforms and then a play area. Another fun time to be had.
We all had a great time. We watched an Imax movie about whales and it was very good. It was mainly about Blue whales and how they were almost extinct but they have found some pods and it showed how they eat and then how their Poop is a part of the sea circle of life. After they have one good feeding on creel, they provide a 50 gallon poop episode that then is eaten by other sea life and just keeps it all going. It was very interesting and we all enjoyed that as well. We headed home and hit the pool for swimming and then we went to Freddies and all got whatever ice cream treat desired. Some had shakes, sundaes, cones and it was very yummy.
We headed back to the hotel and I pulled out the neon bracelets and necklaces I got and we decided to stay in the room (I forgot to mention that they let us keep both rooms for the cost of the one I had paid for instead of moving everything) because it was still pretty hot outside and boy did it turn into some bigtime fun. The pictures speak for themselves.
Kinsley made a jumprope. It actually worked really well--until it didn't. She sure had fun trying it out and it was fun to watch.
I got the kids each some glasses that lit up and we added that to the mix and it was all kinds of fun. Our type of fireworks.
Ashlyn was on the bed creating all kinds of different shapes and fun.
Ashlyn looked great when she got herself all decked out. Jaxon built his and started twirling it and it looked so cool. I love the colors and they way they blended. He had a super fun time with it.
Not my proudest moment, but yes I had them in my ear and in my nose.
The kids all got to 'dress' me up with them. There is a great little video, but I couldn't get it to go on the blog. It sure was fun though.
Another great day and it was filled with so much fun. Everyone was tired and crashed in about 5 minutes and thankfully there was no loud noises tonight. Again I feel so blessed and grateful to be able to spend time with these kiddos and it was just a great day. So much help from Ambur just simple things like me going to the restroom are harder when she isn't there to assist with the kids. No fighting and lots of cooperating and fun made for a perfect day. I am so blessed.
